Bhubaneswar, Odisha: Biju Janata Dal (BJD) spokesperson Lenin Mohanty has expressed support for the One Nation One Election initiative recently approved by the Union Cabinet, emphasizing that Odisha had already successfully implemented a similar approach. Mohanty recalled that in 2004, the BJD conducted elections every four years, reducing the service period by one year, which contributed to their victories in subsequent elections in 2009, 2014, and 2019.
"Much before Modi ji's cabinet passed this One Nation One Election proposal, BJD has successfully implemented it in Odisha," Mohanty stated, highlighting the party's proactive governance strategy. He acknowledged the merits of the initiative but pointed out that, despite its approval, the central government has a history of passing legislation that remains unimplemented.
"In 2024, people have decided that we will sit in opposition, but we have supported the One Nation One Election because of its merit," he added. However, Mohanty raised concerns regarding the practicality and execution of such policies by the Modi government, indicating that many past initiatives have not come to fruition.
As the political discourse continues, Mohanty’s comments underscore the BJD's willingness to endorse beneficial policies while holding the central government accountable for effective implementation. This stance may resonate with voters as they evaluate the efficacy of governance in both Odisha and at the national level.
