Biju Janata Dal (BJD) Vice President Debi Prasad Mishra has welcomed the Union Cabinet’s approval of four semiconductor manufacturing units across the country, including two in Odisha. The decision, which was reported in the media earlier today, is being seen as a major boost for the state’s electronics and semiconductor manufacturing ambitions.
Mishra said the move follows the semiconductor policy formulated by the Odisha government in 2023 under the leadership of former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. He expressed optimism that the new units would be located in Khurda, within the state’s Electronics System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) industrial area.
According to Mishra, the two facilities are expected to create employment opportunities for over 2,000 people, generating economic activity and strengthening Odisha’s position in the high-tech manufacturing sector. He urged the state government to move quickly in providing necessary support and clearances so that the projects can be implemented within a defined timeframe.
