A fresh political war of words has erupted between the Congress and the BJP-led alliance in Bihar after Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge called the JD(U)-BJP alliance "opportunistic" and accused Chief Minister Nitish Kumar of switching sides for the sake of power.

Reacting sharply, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha drew a pointed comparison between Kharge and former Congress leader Sitaram Kesari, alleging that Congress had a history of disrespecting leaders from Bihar. “Kharge is an old and senior leader. We get reminded of Sitaram Kesari when we look at him. Sitaram was disrespected because he was the son of Bihar. Sonia Gandhi couldn’t digest that,” Sinha said.

He further accused the Congress leadership of not only weakening their own party but also undermining democratic institutions over the years. “Such people have not only weakened Congress but also the democracy,” he asserted.

The remarks come after Kharge, during a public address on Sunday, slammed the JD(U)-BJP partnership, terming it a marriage of political convenience and questioning Nitish Kumar's ideological commitments. He accused the Bihar CM of switching alliances solely to retain power, saying, “Nitish Kumar changes sides only for ‘kursi’.”
