Raipur: Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Friday criticised the state government over its response to flood-related devastation in Bastar, alleging that top leaders have failed to visit the affected areas.

Baghel said the region has suffered extensive damage due to heavy rainfall in recent days. “Heavy rains have caused a lot of damage in Bastar. There has been loss of life and property, 8 people have died, hundreds of houses have collapsed, bridges have been washed away, crops have been destroyed,” he stated.

The senior Congress leader alleged that despite the scale of destruction, the current administration has not shown adequate concern. “The Chief Minister is on a foreign tour, and no Minister is going there to assess the situation. Bastar is a very large part of our state; the fact that no one is going there shows how insensitive the government is,” Baghel remarked.

Local officials have reported ongoing relief work, with efforts being made to provide shelter and assistance to displaced families. However, opposition leaders have demanded that senior members of the government immediately visit Bastar to review the situation firsthand.
