Raipur: Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel on Monday described the reported killing of Maoist commander Madvi Hidma in an encounter as a “great achievement” for the security forces and a significant setback for Left-wing extremism in Bastar.

Speaking to reporters, Baghel said he had received information that Hidma, one of the most prominent Maoist leaders operating in the Bastar region, had been killed during an encounter with security personnel. “I have been informed that a Naxal leader Hidma has been killed in an encounter. This is a great achievement for the Police and a huge loss for the Naxalites,” he said.

Hidma, often described as a top commander of the Maoists’ PLGA Battalion 1, was linked to several high-profile attacks in the region over the past decade. Baghel noted that Hidma’s influence extended deeply into the local population. “He was a local Naxalite leader from Bastar, and his death is a huge success,” he added.
