New Delhi, June 11 — Former Delhi Chief Minister and senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi launched a fierce criticism of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led administration, accusing it of pushing the city's poor to the brink of despair through a combination of rising costs and anti-poor policies.
Addressing the media in Delhi, Atishi said, “Since the BJP came to power, poor people have been suffering. There are long power cuts — how can a poor person afford an inverter?” She highlighted that while basic necessities such as electricity and water are becoming increasingly expensive, the BJP government appears indifferent to the impact on the city's working class.
“Electricity prices have been hiked, water prices are also set to increase, and private school fees have gone up,” she said, pointing to a broader cost-of-living crisis affecting lower-income families across the capital. Atishi further alleged that even homes belonging to the poor are not being spared, with ongoing demolition drives displacing hundreds of vulnerable residents.
She questioned the BJP’s intent, asking whether their governance model aimed to drive away the very people who come to Delhi in search of livelihood. “What is the BJP government doing? Do they want the poor, who come to Delhi in search of work, to run away from the city?” she said.
