Ahmedabad, Gujarat – Speaking at the All India Congress Committee (AICC) session held in Ahmedabad, senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor underscored the party’s renewed commitment to political change and historical legacy. He emphasized that the gathering was not just a strategic meeting, but a deeply symbolic event coinciding with two major anniversaries in Indian history.

“We are here to bring change. By coming here, we want to give a message that we are still present,” Tharoor declared, highlighting the Congress party’s intention to reassert its relevance on the national stage amid mounting political competition.

The AICC session marks the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, one of India's foremost freedom fighters and a key architect of its integration, as well as the 100th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi’s elevation to the presidency of the Indian National Congress—a moment that profoundly shaped the party’s direction during the independence movement.

“For me, it is a historical occasion,” Tharoor added, noting that the convergence of these milestones in Gujarat—Patel and Gandhi’s home state—adds weight to the Congress’s symbolic and ideological messaging.
