GUWAHATI: Leader of Opposition in the Assam Legislative Assembly, Debabrata Saikia, on Monday questioned the state government’s law and order claims following the alleged attack on Congress MP Rakibul Hussain in Nagaon district.

"Today, the CM, while replying to the Governor's address, claimed that crime rate has decreased and conviction rate has increased in the state. How can his claim be justified if, in broad daylight, an MP from Dhuri has been assaulted by a mob near a police station?" Saikia said.

Calling the incident a sign of deteriorating law and order, he alleged that the Assam Police has developed a poor reputation due to "ongoing syndicates" in the state. "This is the deterioration of law and order. Police have a bad reputation due to ongoing syndicates in the state," he added.
