Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the state government is providing financial support to Durga Puja Committees across Assam to ensure the festival is celebrated appropriately. This year, 7,817 committees will receive ₹10,000 each, continuing the initiative launched last year.
“The funds have already been disbursed to the respective District Commissioners for onward distribution,” the Chief Minister said in a social media post, emphasising the government’s commitment to supporting cultural celebrations.
The Assam government has a tradition of offering financial assistance for major cultural events, including Bihu and Bhaona, reflecting its efforts to preserve and promote the state’s rich cultural heritage. Officials noted that such support not only aids in festival arrangements but also strengthens community engagement and participation.
