Assam Deputy Speaker Dr. Numal Momin

Guwahati, Assam: The political discourse between Assam and West Bengal escalated on Saturday after Dr. Numal Momin, Deputy Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly, issued a sharp response to a recent tweet by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
In his statement, Dr. Momin termed Banerjee’s remarks as “highly condemnable” and alleged that her comments were in support of what he described as “Bangladeshi infiltrators.” “Not a single Assamese person will support this statement,” he said.
He further accused the West Bengal Chief Minister of promoting divisive rhetoric and claimed her position undermines the sentiments of the people of Assam. “She wanted the coexistence of Bangladeshi infiltrators... That is not acceptable at any cost,” Momin said.
In a particularly controversial part of his statement, Momin criticized Banerjee’s political stance on religious grounds, alleging that she lacked sympathy for Hindus and claiming her broader political agenda aimed at changing the demographic fabric of Bengal and the Northeast.
“Mamata Banerjee should refrain from commenting on Assam’s internal matters and instead focus on issues in West Bengal, where, according to him, Hindus are suffering,” he added.
