Guwahati, Assam: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday announced a series of key decisions taken by the state cabinet, covering education, community welfare, and historical accountability.

Addressing the media, CM Sarma said, “From now on, female teachers who worked for 5 years and male teachers who worked for 7 years can apply for transfer,” introducing a new policy aimed at improving administrative flexibility in the state’s education sector.

Highlighting social welfare measures, he added, “The Assam cabinet has decided to give relief to the people of the tribals, tea garden, and Moran-Matak community from the government’s two-child policy.” Additionally, discussions on land rights for the tea garden community have been thoroughly examined by the cabinet, reflecting a commitment to addressing long-standing community concerns.

CM Sarma also announced that the Tiwari Commission report on the 1983 Nellie massacre, set up by the Assam government to investigate the tragic incident, will be submitted in the next Assam assembly session on November 25. “The state cabinet has decided that the report will be tabled in the upcoming session,” he confirmed, underlining the government’s focus on transparency and historical accountability.
