Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw on Saturday inaugurated the country’s first tempered glass manufacturing plant in Noida, describing it as a milestone in India’s electronics manufacturing journey.

Speaking to the media after the inauguration, Vaishnaw said the growth of the sector reflects the success of the government’s Make in India programme. “Under PM Modi’s Make in India programme, electronic manufacturing in the country has increased significantly. In the last 11 years, electronic production has grown six times and exports have risen nearly eight times,” he stated.

The minister emphasized that India is steadily reducing its reliance on imports by developing domestic capacity in key sectors such as semiconductor packaging, display technology, and component manufacturing. The new tempered glass facility is expected to strengthen India’s presence in the global supply chain for electronics, particularly in the smartphone and consumer electronics industries.
