Jaipur: Senior Congress leader and former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot launched a sharp critique of the Central government’s handling of foreign policy, accusing it of lacking direction and failing to uphold India’s historic diplomatic principles amid growing global unrest.
Speaking at a public event in Jaipur, Gehlot remarked, “Congress always took revolutionary steps towards reforms in the country both before and after independence. The Non-Aligned Movement was started during Indira Gandhi's tenure.” He contrasted this legacy with what he described as the current government’s vague and confusing stance on international affairs.
Referring specifically to the ongoing Israel-Iran conflict, Gehlot noted, “See what is happening today with the war between Israel and Iran, and the US also entering it. India is not able to say anything...” He added that India’s silence and diplomatic ambiguity have eroded its credibility as a global player.
“Today, the government's foreign policy is such that no one can understand it. The Indian government should come forward and tell the nation where it stands, and what its foreign policy is,” Gehlot asserted, calling for transparency and consistency in India’s international engagement.
