AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Friday met families of protesting farmers in Rajkot, where he praised their ongoing struggle and sharply criticised the ruling BJP government in Gujarat. Addressing a hall filled with farmers and their relatives, Kejriwal began by greeting the leaders on stage and extending heartfelt respect to all those present. He said the farmers were not fighting for personal gain but for “all poor farmers of Gujarat,” and their determination deserved the highest honour.

Reflecting on India’s history, Kejriwal drew parallels between past and present struggles. He reminded the gathering how India had once been ruled by the British and was freed due to the sacrifices of leaders like Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Today, he argued, the people of Gujarat faced a different kind of oppression under a government that had remained in power for 30 years. “The BJP has become arrogant,” he alleged, adding that long-term rule had distanced the party from the needs of ordinary citizens.

Kejriwal also criticised the restrictions imposed by local authorities, stating that he was prevented from meeting the farmers directly. According to him, police intervention forced the event to be moved to a separate hall, where he eventually met their families instead. He said this demonstrated the government’s fear of genuine dialogue and its unwillingness to listen to the grievances of those who feed the nation.
