Rajouri – The Indian Army, in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Police, has intensified efforts to locate and neutralize live artillery shells in civilian-populated areas of Rajouri district. The operation comes in the aftermath of three days of heavy artillery shelling by Pakistan, which left several unexploded ordnances scattered across the region.

Security officials have confirmed that multiple residential zones and agricultural fields are being systematically searched as part of the ongoing clearance operation. These unexploded shells pose a significant threat to local residents, especially farmers and children, prompting the need for immediate action.

“This is a sensitive and high-risk task. Our priority is to ensure the safety of civilians by safely disposing of each shell found,” a senior Army officer involved in the operation stated.

The Rajouri district witnessed intense cross-border shelling amid last week's hostilities between India and Pakistan, which flared up after a series of militant attacks and military responses along the Line of Control (LoC). While a ceasefire was brokered in recent days, the physical remnants of the conflict continue to endanger daily life in the affected areas.
