New Delhi: BJP MP Anurag Thakur launched a sharp attack on the Congress party and its leadership, particularly Rahul Gandhi, during the ongoing Winter Session of Parliament. Thakur accused Congress leaders of highlighting their "wrong deeds" to the world and criticized Rahul Gandhi’s understanding of the Constitution.
“I asked opposition MPs about the number of pages the Constitution has, but no one had an answer. Today, I am carrying the copy of the Constitution that Rahul Gandhi carries with himself,” Thakur said, making a pointed remark during his speech in the Lok Sabha.
Thakur further stirred the debate by claiming that the copy of the Constitution Gandhi carries contains "the truth about his family and party." He implied that the Constitution, while a document of democratic values, also holds historical facts that reflect the legacy and actions of the Gandhi family and the Congress party.
The BJP leader’s comments appear to be in response to Rahul Gandhi’s recent speech, in which he aggressively critiqued the government on various issues. Thakur’s remarks were intended to undermine the moral authority of the Congress and to challenge the opposition’s portrayal of the Constitution as a tool for national progress, while subtly linking it to the party’s alleged wrongdoings.
The exchange in Parliament is a continuation of the ongoing war of words between the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress, as both parties seek to dominate the political narrative ahead of upcoming elections. Thakur’s reference to the Constitution was also seen as a broader attempt to project the BJP’s version of constitutional values and criticize the Congress for not adhering to them.
This statement has added to the heightened tensions in Parliament, with Congress leaders expected to respond to Thakur’s remarks in the coming days, as the debate over governance, the Constitution, and the legacy of political parties intensifies.
