New Delhi: BJP MP Anurag Thakur strongly endorsed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech in the Lok Sabha, calling it a "wonderful" address that brought out the truth about certain political parties' failure to eliminate poverty despite decades of governance.
Reacting to Modi’s remarks during the discussion on the President’s Address, Thakur said, “I think the Prime Minister's speech was wonderful, and he brought the truth in front of the country that some people, some families, some parties only raised the slogan of ‘Gareebi Hatao’, but they could not remove poverty.”

The phrase ‘Gareebi Hatao’ (Remove Poverty) was popularized by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in the 1970s, symbolizing the Congress party’s commitment to poverty alleviation. However, the BJP has long accused the Congress and other opposition parties of failing to deliver on this promise despite being in power for several decades.
Thakur further emphasized that Modi’s speech underscored the need for responsible politics. “I think he has made it very clear that one should not harm the country just for the sake of politics,” he added.
