BJP MP Anurag Thakur on Monday strongly endorsed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address in the Lok Sabha on the legacy of Vande Mataram, describing the speech as one that “will inspire and educate future generations.” Speaking during the Parliament Winter Session, Thakur said the Prime Minister had provided the nation with a comprehensive account of the song’s cultural and historical importance.

“PM Modi informed the people of the country about the history and cultural significance of Vande Mataram,” Thakur said. “In a way, his speech has become a historical document that will both inspire and educate future generations.” He added that for “crores of Indians, Vande Mataram is a source of energy, while for some it seems to be an allergy,” taking a direct swipe at opposition leaders.

Thakur criticised members of the Congress party for their absence during the discussion, suggesting it reflected discomfort with the subject. “Some people did not even appear in the House today,” he remarked.

The BJP MP also referenced past statements by Congress leaders, recalling that in 2018 Rahul Gandhi had urged a gathering in Karnataka to “sing only one line of Vande Mataram.” Thakur further said, “Nehru ji limited it to two stanzas, Rahul Gandhi reduced it to one line, and today the brother–sister duo is missing altogether,” in a pointed attack on the Gandhi family.
