Chennai, Tamil Nadu | BJP Tamil Nadu President K Annamalai has launched a scathing attack on the ruling DMK government, accusing it of downplaying serious national security threats after fresh arrests in the Coimbatore suicide bombing case. In a strongly worded post on social media platform X, Annamalai claimed that a radicalisation and recruitment network linked to ISIS was operating in the state “under the nose” of the DMK regime.

“‘Just a cylinder blast’, they said. It turns out it was a full-blown ISIS-linked radicalisation and recruitment network… using classrooms as terror factories,” Annamalai wrote. He added that four more individuals were arrested yesterday, bringing the total to eight suspects, all reportedly connected to the October 2022 Coimbatore suicide bombing.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA), which has been probing the case, has intensified its crackdown on suspected extremist cells across Tamil Nadu. The initial explosion, which occurred near a temple in Coimbatore, was initially attributed to a gas cylinder blast but was later confirmed as a terror attack involving a suicide bomber.
