Mumbai, Maharashtra: As the Mahayuti alliance prepares to form the government in Maharashtra, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Anand Dubey admitted to underestimating the overwhelming public support for the alliance and reflected on his party’s unexpected electoral defeat.
“We could not recognize this tsunami. In a democracy, the public is the most important. We respect the decision of the public and congratulate those who formed the government in Maharashtra,” Dubey stated.
He emphasized the need for introspection to understand where his party went wrong, despite a promising manifesto. “Our manifesto was very good; we talked about all sections of society. We never gave divisive slogans like 'Ek rahenge, safe rahenge' and 'Katenge toh bantenge.' We are sad that we could not win the trust of the public,” he said.
Dubey expressed disappointment at the scale of the defeat, calling it “very unfortunate” that the party could not even secure enough seats to sit in the opposition. However, he remained optimistic about rebuilding the party’s credibility. “We never expected such a huge defeat. We will win the trust of the public again,” he concluded.
The crushing loss for Shiv Sena (UBT) highlights the challenges the party faces in reclaiming its footing in Maharashtra’s political landscape, as Mahayuti rides high on its decisive mandate.
