New Delhi, June 16: Union Home Minister Amit Shah, addressing the Conference of Relief Commissioners of States and Union Territories and Disaster Response Forces in Delhi, issued a strong call for urgent action in strengthening disaster preparedness across India.
Shah noted with concern that many districts across the country are yet to formulate their District Disaster Management Plans (DDMPs)—a crucial tool in ensuring quick and coordinated response to emergencies. “We will complete the work of making district disaster management plans for each district in their respective states within 90 days,” he declared.
Highlighting the importance of these plans, Shah stated, “Unless there is a district disaster management plan, it is not possible to fight disaster management with speed.” He emphasized that timely planning is essential to mitigate loss of life and property, especially in the face of rising climate-induced calamities.
In addition, Shah directed all states and Union Territories to formulate a state-level action plan specifically targeting lightning and thunderstorms, and to submit it to the central government within the next 90 days.
