New Delhi: Speaking at the launch of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s new book The Emergency Diaries, Union Home Minister Amit Shah drew a powerful parallel between Modi’s early resistance during the 1975 Emergency and his rise to the highest office in the country. Shah described Modi’s journey as “divine justice,” remarking on how a young protester became the driving force behind India’s democratic resurgence.

“Look at how the divine justice takes place. A 25-year-old boy opposed Indira Gandhi's dictatorship… Today, that same person, in 2014, uprooted the reason for which the Emergency was imposed—dynasty politics,” Shah said.

He added that the youth who once stood up against authoritarianism is now actively “strengthening the roots of democracy in this country.” The book, The Emergency Diaries, contains personal accounts, historical insights, and untold stories of political resistance during the Emergency years, with PM Modi sharing reflections from his youth when he worked underground to mobilize opposition.
