Ahmedabad, June 16: In a somber moment that marked the loss of a prominent political figure, the mortal remains of former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani were transported from Ahmedabad’s Civil Hospital to his hometown Rajkot on Sunday. The ambulance carrying his body was accompanied by senior officials and party workers, many of whom were visibly emotional.

Rupani was among the 241 passengers and crew members aboard Air India flight AI-171, which tragically crashed shortly after takeoff from Mumbai on June 12 en route to London. The incident, which has since sent shockwaves across the country, claimed all lives on board.

A stalwart of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Vijay Rupani served as Gujarat’s 16th Chief Minister from 2016 to 2021. Known for his composed demeanor and administrative capabilities, he played a crucial role in steering Gujarat through several development initiatives.
