Mumbai: Amid the political buzz surrounding the Mahayuti alliance forming the government in Maharashtra, NCP Chief Ajit Pawar delivered a lighthearted remark that left everyone at the press conference in splits.

When asked by the media whether Shiv Sena chief Eknath Shinde would be taking the oath as Deputy Chief Minister, Pawar responded with a quip: "He (Shinde) may take time and decide by the evening. I’ll be taking the oath."

The candid comment brought laughter to the room, including from Shinde himself, reflecting a sense of camaraderie among the Mahayuti alliance leaders following the formal invitation to form the government.

The remark comes as the Mahayuti alliance—comprising the BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP factions—prepares to finalize its leadership roles and governance framework. Speculation remains rife about the exact portfolios and responsibilities of senior leaders in the newly forming cabinet.

While Ajit Pawar’s playful comment captured attention, political observers note that it underscores the underlying complexities of coalition politics in Maharashtra. With multiple heavyweights in the alliance, clarity on leadership roles is expected to emerge as the oath-taking ceremony nears.

The Mahayuti alliance is poised to present its leadership and vision for Maharashtra in the coming days, promising a renewed focus on governance and development.
