NEW DELHI: Air Marshal Narmdeshwar Tiwari, an accomplished fighter pilot with over 3,600 hours of flying experience, officially took over as the Vice Chief of the Air Staff on Friday, marking a key leadership transition in the Indian Air Force (IAF). He succeeds Air Marshal S P Dharkar, who superannuated on April 30.
A highly respected officer in the IAF, Air Marshal Tiwari brings with him a vast array of operational, command, and strategic experience. Prior to this appointment, he served as the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief (AOC-in-C) of the South Western Air Command (SWAC) based in Gandhinagar, where he oversaw critical air operations and played a pivotal role in strengthening India's western aerial defences.
Known for his precision and leadership, Tiwari’s elevation comes at a crucial time as the IAF continues its modernization drive and enhances its preparedness amid evolving regional security dynamics. His career spans several frontline commands and operational roles, and he has been instrumental in shaping air combat strategies and pilot training initiatives.
