Vijayawada: An Air India Express flight bound for Bengaluru was cancelled on Thursday after the aircraft suffered a bird strike during taxiing at Vijayawada International Airport, an airline official confirmed.
According to officials, the incident occurred when an eagle collided with the nose of the aircraft as it prepared for takeoff. The impact caused minor damage, prompting immediate safety checks. The airline decided to cancel the flight as a precautionary measure, prioritizing passenger safety.
Following the cancellation, the airline arranged alternative travel options for the stranded passengers. Ground staff assisted in rebooking tickets and making necessary adjustments to minimize inconvenience.
Bird strikes, though not uncommon in aviation, pose significant operational challenges. Airports across India and globally maintain regular wildlife management protocols to reduce such risks, including habitat modification and monitoring bird activity in flight paths.
