Gujarat is positioning itself at the forefront of India’s Blue Economy as the state accelerates efforts to modernise its fishing sector using cutting-edge technology and sustainable practices. Ahead of the upcoming Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference—focused on the coastal regions of Kutch and Saurashtra—officials say the state’s next-generation smart fishing harbours will demonstrate how innovation can reshape traditional livelihoods.
The harbours at Jakhau in Kutch and Vanakbara in Diu are set to become model centres for the integration of artificial intelligence, 5G connectivity and eco-friendly infrastructure. These smart facilities aim to streamline marine operations, enhance safety, and maximise the value of Gujarat’s rich marine resources. AI-powered systems are expected to assist fishermen with real-time weather updates, optimal fishing-zone predictions, and automated catch management, reducing time at sea and improving efficiency.
