Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to visit flood-hit Punjab, assures Centre’s support

Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said crops over 1.5 lakh hectares in Punjab are submerged and assured full Centre-state coordination for relief.

New Delhi: Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Wednesday announced that he will visit flood-affected areas of Punjab tomorrow to assess the situation and interact with affected communities. He assured that the Centre, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, is committed to supporting people during the crisis.

Highlighting the scale of the damage, Chouhan said that standing crops on nearly 1.5 lakh hectares of farmland in Punjab’s border districts have been submerged, leaving farmers deeply distressed. “In the bordering districts of Punjab, there is a total deluge, people are troubled, the farmers are worried. As per information, crops on 1.5 lakh hectare land are submerged,” he stated.

The Minister added that several northern states, including Haryana, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Delhi, are also facing flood-like situations. He emphasized that the Centre is actively monitoring developments and working in close coordination with state governments to ensure timely relief.

Chouhan said he has already spoken with the Punjab Governor and Chief Minister to discuss ongoing efforts. “The Centre is keeping an eye on the situation. In coordination with the state government, the government will try everything to improve the situation of people. I will talk to people during my visit and ensure maximum support for relief,” he said.
