Kolkata, West Bengal: BJP MLA Agnimitra Paul has publicly criticized the West Bengal Women's Commission, accusing it of failing to address the issues faced by women in the state. Speaking in Kolkata, Paul claimed that the commission has been negligent in its duties and is not actively working to protect women's rights.

"The overall women leadership of BJP has put a symbolic lock here today on the West Bengal Women's Commission office because it does not do any work," said Paul, expressing her frustration over the commission's alleged inaction. She pointed out that the commission's salaries and facilities are funded by taxpayers' money, yet it has not been effective in raising its voice against the daily atrocities faced by women in Bengal.

Paul further accused the commission of being more interested in currying favor with the Chief Minister than fulfilling its mandate to protect women. "They only flatter the Chief Minister," she added, highlighting what she sees as a lack of independence and initiative on the part of the commission.

Her statements reflect a broader criticism by the BJP of the West Bengal government's handling of women's issues, calling for more accountability and action from state institutions designed to safeguard women's rights. The BJP has been increasingly vocal about the need for the West Bengal Women's Commission to act more decisively in addressing the safety and well-being of women in the state.
