Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Delhi state convenor Saurabh Bharadwaj has sharply criticized newly-appointed Chief Minister Rekha Gupta over her recent speech on the installation of GPS systems in water tankers, accusing her of making misleading claims and taking credit for an initiative that dates back nearly a decade.
“The CM Rekha Gupta’s speech was funny. How can she lie this much?” Bharadwaj remarked in a strongly worded statement on social media. Referring to the announcement that GPS would be installed in Delhi’s water tankers, he pointed out, “It’s on record that in 2015, it was announced that all water tankers would have GPS.”
Bharadwaj, who served as the vice-chairman of the Delhi Jal Board in 2022, asserted that the project was already underway and questioned the novelty of the BJP-led administration’s claims. “What new are they doing in it instead of adding her and PM Modi’s photo on the tankers?” he added.
The criticism comes amid ongoing political friction between AAP and BJP over water management in the national capital. The GPS installation in water tankers was originally introduced as a transparency measure to prevent water theft and ensure timely delivery to underserved areas.
