The Aam Aadmi Party’s Delhi unit president, Saurabh Bharadwaj, on Saturday staged a protest against the upcoming India–Pakistan cricket match in the Asia Cup, voicing strong opposition to sporting ties with the neighboring country.
Bharadwaj alleged that Pakistani cricketers had mocked Indian women during past tragedies, including the Pahalgam terrorist attack, and accused them of posting derogatory comments on social media. Referring to these remarks, he said, “Pakistani cricketers mocked our sisters when their ‘Sindoor’ was wiped off after the Pahalgam terrorist attack. When their husbands were brutally murdered, these players shamelessly posted on social media that Asim Munir is putting ‘Sindoor’ on our sisters’ head… And, now we are sending team to play cricket with Pakistan. Have we gone mad for money?”
The AAP leader’s comments came amid continuing debate over whether India should engage in cricket matches with Pakistan, given strained bilateral ties and ongoing security concerns.
