Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai on Tuesday welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision permitting the sale and bursting of green crackers in Delhi-NCR during Diwali. Rai said the Delhi government has consistently worked to reduce pollution levels in the capital, and expressed hope that the court’s directive would be followed responsibly.

“We have tried our best to reduce pollution. Now, with the Supreme Court's decision on allowing green crackers for Diwali, we hope the Delhi government will follow the rules and continue working towards improving air quality for the people during the festival,” Rai said.

The Supreme Court recently allowed the sale and use of green crackers — fireworks that emit fewer pollutants — in regions where local authorities have not imposed specific bans. The decision comes amid rising concerns over deteriorating air quality in the national capital ahead of winter.
