Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief national spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar strongly criticized the BJP after its workers protested against AAP national convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal during his visit to Pitampura to meet the families of crime victims.
Questioning the BJP’s stance, Kakkar asked, “What problem does BJP have with the fact that Arvind Kejriwal is visiting the family of victims of crime? They should stand with their families.” She further urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah to prioritize addressing the rising crime incidents rather than focusing on political rivalry.
The comments came in the wake of BJP workers raising slogans against Kejriwal during his visit, accusing him of politicizing the issue. However, Kakkar defended the visit, asserting it was a gesture of solidarity and compassion, rather than a political maneuver.
“You need to stop the crimes that are happening and not Arvind Kejriwal,” Kakkar added, directly addressing Amit Shah. The AAP leader’s remarks underline the ongoing friction between the two parties over governance and law and order in Delhi, a Union Territory where the police report to the central government.
The incident has further fueled tensions between AAP and BJP, with the former accusing the latter of deflecting attention from rising crime rates in the city. AAP leaders have consistently pointed to the BJP-led central government’s control over Delhi Police as a key factor in the law-and-order situation, calling for accountability and immediate corrective measures.
The clash in Pitampura highlights the increasingly charged political atmosphere as both parties prepare for upcoming electoral battles.
