Mumbai – Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray has raised concerns over the credibility of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and criticized the Election Commission of India (ECI) for allegedly compromising its impartiality in elections.
Commenting on the recent statement by the Chief Election Commissioner regarding EVMs, Thackeray proposed a comparative test to assess public trust in voting systems. “They should do an experiment and keep ballot papers and EVMs side by side and see how voting happens,” he said, emphasizing the need for transparency and accountability in the electoral process.
Thackeray didn’t hold back in his criticism of the ECI, alleging a lack of neutrality in its conduct. “The behaviour of the Election Commission of India, be it in the Lok Sabha or Vidhan Sabha elections, was like an entirely compromised commission of India,” he remarked, claiming to have observed its actions closely.
The Shiv Sena leader’s statements reflect a growing sentiment among some political leaders who have questioned the reliability of EVMs and called for greater scrutiny of the electoral process.
