Delhi | The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has confirmed that 270 Indian nationals have been repatriated from Thailand following a crackdown by local authorities in Myanmar, which led to their illegal entry into Thailand.

Speaking at a media briefing, MEA Official Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “Two hundred seventy Indian nationals returned yesterday from Thailand. When there was a crackdown in Myanmar in some of those camp centres, they illegally came into Thailand, and the Thai authorities thereafter undertook certain processes that were required on their side.”

He explained that once Indian officials verified the documents and confirmed the nationality of those detained, arrangements were made to bring them back to India. “After verification, they were flown to India yesterday,” Jaiswal stated.

The spokesperson also noted that additional Indian nationals remain in Thailand and are expected to return soon. “I understand that there are some more Indian nationals who are there right now in Thailand, and they will also be coming back in a few days’ time. I shall keep you updated on the number,” he added.
