Madurai – The Madurai district administration has announced record registrations for the iconic Jallikattu events, a highlight of the Pongal festival. A total of 12,632 bulls and 5,347 bull tamers have registered online to participate in this year’s festivities at Avaniyapuram, Palamedu, and Alanganallur.
The world-famous Jallikattu events are scheduled to take place on January 14 at Avaniyapuram, January 15 at Palamedu, and January 16 at Alanganallur. Known for its cultural significance and thrilling action, the event attracts participants and spectators from across Tamil Nadu and beyond.
Online registration for bulls and tamers was facilitated through the official Madurai district website (http://madurai.nic.in), opening yesterday at 5 PM and concluding today at 5 PM. The district administration has ensured a streamlined process to manage the overwhelming response and ensure the smooth conduct of the events.
Jallikattu is celebrated as a testament to Tamil Nadu's agrarian traditions and showcases the bond between farmers and their prized bulls. The sport, conducted under strict safety regulations, is also seen as a demonstration of bravery and skill.
