Dubai: India secured an unassailable 2-0 lead against England in the ongoing ODI series, sending a strong message to the cricketing world ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. However, former Indian coach Ravi Shastri has cautioned Team India, emphasizing that hosts Pakistan could pose a serious threat in the tournament due to their potent fast-bowling attack and familiarity with home conditions.

Pakistan, the defending champions, have been in fine form, winning three consecutive ODI series against South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Australia. This strong run of performances has boosted their confidence ahead of the Champions Trophy, where they will kick off their campaign against New Zealand on February 19 in Karachi. Their highly anticipated clash against India is set for February 23 in Dubai.

Speaking on the ICC Review, Shastri highlighted Pakistan’s recent success in limited-overs cricket, particularly their impressive performances in South Africa. While the team will miss opener Saim Ayub due to injury, Shastri believes Pakistan has enough talent to compensate for his absence.

"They will feel Ayub’s absence at the top order as he is a crucial player, but Pakistan is a dangerous side in home conditions. I believe they should qualify for the semi-finals, and from there, anything can happen," said Shastri.

Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting echoed Shastri’s views, emphasizing Pakistan’s lethal pace attack, featuring Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, Haris Rauf, and Mohammad Hasnain.

"I completely agree with Ravi. Ayub is a fantastic player, and replacing him won’t be easy. But Pakistan’s fast bowling attack is exceptional. Led by Afridi and Naseem, they have the pace and skill to trouble any batting lineup," Ponting remarked.
