BY A STAFF REPORTER: The sleuths of the Central Bureau of Investigation left the police headquarters after West Bengal CID refused to hand over Shahjahan Sheikh's custody to the CBI in Kolkata on 5th March, Tuesday.

A CBI team went to Bhawani Bhawan to take over Shahjahan's custody from the Bengal CID as per Calcutta High Court's order today. However, the Bengal CID refused to transfer custody as the West Bengal government has moved to the Supreme Court to challenge HC's verdict.

Earlier today, the Calcutta High Court transferred the Sandeshkhali case including the attack on ED sleuths and allegations on Shahjahan Sheikh to the Central Bureau of Investigation.

The Prime accused in the Sandeshkhali matter, Shahjahan Sheikh was arrested on 29th February, Thursday. He was suspended for six years by the Trinamool Congress.

A village located in North 24 Parganas, West Bengal, Sandeshkhali is witnessing significant clashes and violence following allegations of systematic sexual exploitations and land-grabbing committed by TMC leaders, Shahjahan Sheikh, Shibu Hazara and Uttam Sardar. Shahjahan Sheikh remained absconding since 5th January after an ED team was attacked by a large mob while conducting raids at Shahjahan's residence.
