In a significant development in Jammu and Kashmir, two women identified as Arsho Begum and Mariyam Begum have been arrested under the Public Safety Act (PSA) for their involvement in providing logistical support to terrorists. SSP Udhampur, Amod Nagpure, confirmed that the arrests were part of ongoing efforts to counter terrorism in the Basantgarh area.
Speaking about the operation, SSP Nagpure revealed that the movement of terrorists had been observed in the region for several days, prompting a focused response. “Movement of terrorists was being seen in the area from the last few days, to control which, on 11 September, two Pakistani terrorists were neutralised in a counter-terror operation,” he said.
Nagpure further explained that local individuals providing support to terrorists had been identified. After thorough analysis, two individuals were arrested under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), and three others were detained under stringent provisions of the PSA.
“Two women, Arsho Begum and Mariyam Begum have been detained under provisions of the PSA because the two were intentionally and willfully providing logistical support to the terrorists,” he added.
The arrests highlight the ongoing efforts of security forces to disrupt terrorist networks and their local collaborators in the region. The use of PSA reflects the government's focus on tackling terror-related activities with increased legal measures for detainment and preventive action.
