Three people lost their lives in Shimla district as heavy rainfall triggered landslides and a house collapse, officials said on Monday. The incidents occurred overnight, leaving behind extensive damage and prompting authorities to issue a red alert for the region.
According to police, a 35-year-old man and his daughter were among the victims, while another person died in a separate landslide-related incident. Continuous rain has battered several parts of Himachal Pradesh, worsening the risk of landslides and flash floods in the hilly terrain.
The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for the next two days, warning of extremely heavy rainfall in multiple districts. Officials have urged residents to remain cautious and avoid travel in vulnerable areas.
The downpour has severely disrupted road connectivity, with at least five national highways reported shut due to landslides and debris. Restoration work is underway, but authorities cautioned that operations are being hampered by ongoing rain and unstable slopes.
