Activist Sonam Wangchuk has urged the Central government to hold discussions on the demand for statehood to Ladakh well before the proposed date of October 6. The call comes after Wangchuk ended his hunger strike, which was disrupted by violent incidents during a protest in the region.

“People are angered. After keeping people hungry for 16 days, a meeting was called. People are demanding the meeting to happen well before October 6,” Wangchuk said in a statement on social media, reflecting public frustration over delays in addressing the issue.

The activist had initiated the hunger strike to press for timely action on the demand for statehood and to draw attention to the concerns of Ladakh residents. The recent violence during the protest prompted Wangchuk to call off the strike while continuing to seek dialogue with the authorities.
