BY A STAFF REPORTER: As the whole country is painted in the colours of Holi, Sonam Wangchuk completed the 20th day of his 'Climate Fast' on March 25, Monday.

Taking it to his X handle, Wangchuk shared that around 3,000 people along with him are on a hunger strike. He further expressed grief over no response from the government. Wangchuk also remarked that this is very unusual for democracy as 90% of Ladakh's population has taken a stand to remind their leaders of their promises, with many fasting for 20 days in protest.

However, Wangchuk lauded the public for extending their support from across the country and compensating for the compromised mainstream media coverage.

Ramon Magsaysay awardee Sonam Wangchuk is currently on a hunger strike along with several people with numerous demands for the Union Territory of Ladakh. The fasting individuals demand statehood for the UT of Ladakh and call for Ladakh's inclusion in the 6th Schedule of the Indian Constitution outlines the establishment of an Autonomous District Council which aims to safeguard the rights of the Tribal population in Meghalaya, Tripura, Mizoram, and Assam. Their demands also include measures to protect Ladakh's delicate ecosystem. Moreover, Sonam Wangchuk is spreading awareness about the severe environmental impact of several developmental projects on Ladakh's natural resources and ecosystem. Along with this, Wangchuk's demands include separate parliamentary seats for Leh and Kargil districts and a separate Public Service Commission for Ladakh.
