Distressing reports emerged from Umrangshu, Assam, where several laborers have been trapped in a coal mine. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to Twitter to confirm the incident, stating that the exact number of those trapped and their current status remains uncertain.

"Distressing news from Umrangshu, where laborers are trapped in a coal mine. The exact number and status are yet unknown," the Chief Minister tweeted. He added that the Deputy Commissioner (DC), Superintendent of Police (SP), and MLA Kaushik Rai are en route to the site to oversee the situation.

In response to the incident, the Assam government has sought the assistance of the Army to bolster rescue efforts. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have also been dispatched to the location to aid in the ongoing operation.

The Chief Minister’s announcement highlights the urgency of the situation and the state government’s efforts to ensure a swift and effective response. As details about the number of trapped laborers and their condition remain unclear, local authorities are working against the clock to coordinate rescue operations.
