Kolkata's First Under-River Metro To Be Unveiled On March 6

The Metro named 'East-West Metro', will connect Howrah with Kolkata. The passage under the Hooghly River is India's first underwater transport tunnel. The line will likely see a 'sea of passengers' and significantly decrease the traffic congestion.

BY A STAFF REPORTER: In a significant move, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to unveil Kolkata's first under-river metro on 6th March in West Bengal, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw informed on Saturday. 

Moreover, the Metro named 'East-West Metro', will connect Howrah with Kolkata. The passage under the Hooghly River is India's first underwater transport tunnel. Moreover, the length of the tunnel is 520 meters with a depth of 30 meters below the river surface. The line will likely see a 'sea of passengers' and significantly decrease the traffic congestion. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also inaugurated projects worth Rs. 15,000 crores at Bengal's Krishnanagar today. He also unveiled projects worth Rs. 7,200 crores at Arambag, West Bengal yesterday.
