Kolkata Law College Gangrape Case: Three Accused in Custody, SIT Formed for Probe

Kolkata, July 1 — Tensions continue to mount in Kolkata following a shocking incident of alleged gangrape reported from South Calcutta Law College on the evening of June 25. The case has sent shockwaves across the academic and legal communities, prompting swift police action and widespread public outrage.

The three accused, identified as Manojit Mishra, Zaib Ahmed, and Pramit Mukhopadhyay, were produced in court and have been remanded to police custody until July 1. The Kolkata Police have formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) comprising five members to ensure a focused and impartial probe. The SIT is operating under the direct supervision of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Pradip Kumar Ghoshal.

According to preliminary reports, the survivor was allegedly assaulted on college premises in the evening hours. Visuals from the college have surfaced, showing a heightened police presence and tight security measures around the institution.

The authorities have remained tight-lipped about further case details, citing the sensitivity of the investigation and the privacy of the survivor. Student bodies and women’s rights groups have staged protests demanding immediate justice and institutional accountability.
