By A Staff Reporter: In a recent statement, Congress leader Karti Chidambaram criticized the government for allegedly ignoring established parliamentary conventions. "The convention was that the longest-serving member would be the Pro-tem Speaker...The government refused to give that honor to senior member Kodikunnil Suresh," Chidambaram stated.

He further highlighted the breach of another convention regarding the Deputy Speaker position. "The convention also says that the position of Deputy Speaker will be given to the opposition bloc. But they ran a Parliament last time in the 17th Lok Sabha without a Deputy Speaker," he added.

Chidambaram's remarks underscore concerns about the government's adherence to parliamentary traditions and the implications for democratic processes within the legislative framework.
