On the night of July 16, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) undertook a critical search and rescue operation for IFB Aashni (IND-TN-12-MM-6673), which had 11 crew members on board and was located 50 nautical miles west of Ponani, Kerala. The vessel was experiencing severe flooding and engine failure amidst adverse weather conditions.
An ICG Dornier aircraft successfully located the distressed vessel. Despite challenging weather, the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) of the Indian Coast Guard promptly initiated the rescue effort.
ICG Ship Saksham and a Dornier aircraft were dispatched to provide immediate assistance. They are currently aiding in towing IFB Aashni to safety, ensuring the crew's well-being and the vessel's secure return to port.
