Uttarkashi – In a rapid and high-risk operation, Indian Army personnel responded within minutes after a mudslide and avalanche struck Dharali village in Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi district on Wednesday afternoon.
Brigadier Mandeep Dhillon, Brigade Commander, confirmed that the natural disaster occurred at approximately 1:45 PM. “The Indian Army column located at Harsil Post was the first to respond and reach the village within 10 minutes,” he said.
Rescue operations began immediately. “Around 20 people have been rescued, and the injured are undergoing treatment,” Brigadier Dhillon added. He also stated that the challenging situation intensified when a subsequent mudslide and cloudburst impacted both the Army camp and a section of the rescue columns already engaged in relief efforts.
Despite the secondary disaster, rescue teams continued operations under adverse conditions, supported by other forces including the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and local administration.
