Heatwave likely in eastern India in May: IMD

IMD also said that the north-west and west-central parts of the country, including Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and western Uttar Pradesh, are likely to receive normal or above normal rainfall in May.

BY A STAFF REPORTER: A massive weather change is forecast for May. Several parts of eastern India, including Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha, will see above normal temperatures in May. Met office says, At the same time, there will be another heat wave. On Saturday, the IMD said that the night weather in these places is warm and the temperature may be below normal during the day.

The IMD also said that the north-west and west-central parts of the country, including Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and western Uttar Pradesh, are likely to receive normal or above normal rainfall in May. Apart from this, there is a possibility of below normal rainfall at many places in northeast, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and south Karnataka. According to the IMD, there is a possibility of 91-109 per cent rainfall in May.



IMD scientist Mrityunjay Mohapatra told the media that, there is a possibility of above normal heat wave in Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, east Uttar Pradesh, coastal Andhra Pradesh and parts of north Chhattisgarh and most parts of east Madhya Pradesh, Telangana and coastal Gujarat in May. A neutral El Niño over the equatorial Pacific ocean could have an impact in May.
