Vadodara, Gujarat: At least nine people lost their lives and around ten others were injured after a portion of the Gambhira Bridge collapsed over the Mahisagar River in Gujarat’s Vadodara district on Wednesday morning. The incident occurred when part of the bridge gave way, causing vehicles, including a truck, to plunge into the river below.
Rescue operations are currently underway, with emergency services deployed to the site to retrieve vehicles and assist survivors. Local officials confirmed that nine bodies have been recovered so far, while the injured have been shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment. The condition of some remains critical.
Efforts to extract a truck that fell into the river during the collapse are ongoing, with cranes and divers involved in the recovery process. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and local police have cordoned off the area and are coordinating the rescue effort.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the cause of the collapse. A structural investigation is expected to be conducted once rescue work concludes. The incident has raised concerns about the condition and maintenance of public infrastructure in the region.
